Suggestions from the public are sought by the National Intellectual property Office on the draft amendments to the Intellectual property Act No 36 of 2003 (hereinafter referred to as the IP Act.)

Background

In July 2012 the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Draft Bill containing amendments to the IP Act. The Draft Bill intends to amend the Act with a view to enhance the protection granted to owners of Copyright and Related Rights by introducing a Voluntary Registration system. Few other amendments too are being introduced to remove the printer’s errors and also to clarify certain existing provisions in the IP Act.

Submission of Comments or Proposals

Those interested in submitting their comments and proposals on the amendments or on any other provisions in the IP Act are kindly invited to submit same in English, Sinhala or Tamil languages, and “AMENDMENTS TO THE IP ACT” written on the top left hand corner of the envelope, addressed to the Director General of Intellectual Property, No 400, 3rd Floor, “Samagam Medura”, D.R. Wijewardhana Mawatha, Colombo 10. on or before 30th May, 2014
